1.
Surveying your Possessions
To start off your international move preparation, one of our moving specialists will come to your home to explain the many services that that Universal Relocations offers. Next, the moving specialist will perform complete survey of everything in your home that needs to be moved - listing out things along the way that can't be moved, such as hazardous materials, flammable items, and other cargo that might require special attention, such as an antique china-ware, grandfather clock or your wine collection.
Your estimate will be based on the volume of goods to be shipped and/or the volume and weight of goods to be freight forwarded. Accurate estimating depends on the level of detail given to the relocation consultant during this part of the international move preparation process. It’s simple really, the more accurate the details, the more accurate the estimate.
2. You can be a great help
Do make sure that all items are shown in detail, including contents of drawers, cupboards, storage rooms/closets, attics and garages. Items that are not currently at your home, but which still need to be moved should be described accurately. If you are planning to make new purchases that will need to be included in the move, do not forget to tell us about them during the survey.
Additionally, you may decide to store some of your items in your country or origin or at the destination. Storage is a cost effective solution, particularly if you have to limit your shipment size, are renting your home out while you are away or are moving into a hotel prior to finding a permanent home. Make sure to ask your move specialist of any storage needs you may have.
3. Protecting Possessions
Your moving consultant will discuss coverage options with you to ensure that your possessions are protected during the journey. Though it's unlikely that anything will happen, our extensive insurance coverage gives you the security and peace-of-mind you need during your move.
4. Papers, Documentation and all that’s required
In this age of security requirements, proper documentation is as important as breathing. You can rely on your Coordinator’s expertise to guide you through the process of identifying and completing the extensive paperwork that is needed for your origin and destination countries. Don't delay, as documentation is a critical part of the international move preparation process and late receipt may delay your shipment considerably.
5. International Travel is safe, but still…
While travel throughout most of the world is considered safe, we recommend that you check with your appropriate embassies, consulates and agencies for current travel advisories. In addition to travel advisories, embassies and consulates will also have information on what you should do in situations of emergency. Because of heightened security measures, travelers should factor in additional time for check-in. Please check with your carrier or travel agent for additional information regarding air travel safety and security and related check-in requirements, baggage restrictions, among other things.
