RECOMMENDED THINGS TO SHIP
We recommend that shipping of LED Televisions, leather furniture, love seats, beds, mattresses, electronic items (i.e.: music system, home theatre etc.) are worthwhile items to ship considering the huge cost in India and at the same time due to the sentimental value attached for having used it for so long. Items like Tv s and electronic stuff can be shipped but a step down transformer needs to be bought in India for converting from 110 Volts to 220 volts ,some TV you need buy NTC and PAL Converter.

SURVEY, VOLUME ASSESSMENT AND QUOTE
On-the-spot surveys can be conducted, and the volume may also be determined using an online auto volume calculator or through a simple phone call by listing the items if they are few in number. Once the volume is established, a quote can be prepared and sent within the next couple of hours. The customer can then review the quote and have a direct telephone discussion with the assigned Sales Manager to clarify any queries they may have. The client has the option to choose full packing, partial packing, or to pack by themselves, leaving Universal to pick up the shipment and ship it to India. In the case of self-packing, it is advisable to use only double-walled heavy-duty carton boxes.

DEPRECIATION
In case a person knows the rate of duty for a particular item, it's easy to calculate the duty that will be charged. However, for used items the value is determined by allowing depreciation on a yearly basis. Normally depreciation would be calculated as:
- First year depreciation @ 16%2.
- Second year depreciation @ 12%3.
- Third year depreciation @ 10%
- Hence, for an item that is four years old the price works out to the new item price less 38%.

FCL Shipments:

LCL Shipments:

No, under Transfer of Residence rules, customs duty is not levied on used personal effects and household goods that are more than six months old.
FCL stands for "Full Container Load." It refers to a shipping term used in logistics and freight transport. In an FCL shipment, an entire container is loaded with goods from a single shipper. Here are some key points about FCL:
Space Utilization:
FCL is typically more cost-effective when shipping large volumes of goods, as the shipper pays for the entire container, regardless of how much space is used.
Faster Shipping:
Since the container is filled with goods from one shipper, it often leads to faster processing times compared to LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments, which are shared among multiple shippers.
Security and Safety:
FCL shipments are generally more secure, as the goods are not mixed with those from other shippers, reducing the risk of damage or loss.
Container Types:
FCL shipments can use different types of containers, such as standard dry containers, refrigerated containers, or special containers for oversized cargo, depending on the nature of the goods being shipped.
Shipping containers come in various sizes, with the most common being:
20-Foot Container (TEU - Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit):
External Dimensions:
Approximately 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8.5 feet high (6.06 m x 2.44 m x 2.59 m).
Internal Dimensions:
About 19.4 feet long, 7.7 feet wide, and 7.9 feet high (5.9 m x 2.35 m x 2.39 m).
Volume:
Approximately 1,172 cubic feet (33.2 cubic meters).
Maximum Payload:
Around 44,000 pounds (20,000 kg).
40-Foot Container (FEU - Forty-foot Equivalent Unit):
External Dimensions:
Approximately 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8.5 feet high (12.19 m x 2.44 m x 2.59 m).
Internal Dimensions: About 39.5 feet long, 7.7 feet wide, and 7.9 feet high (12.03 m x 2.35 m x 2.39 m).
Volume: Approximately 2,390 cubic feet (67.7 cubic meters).
Maximum Payload:
Around 58,000 pounds (26,310 kg).
40-Foot High Cube Container:
This is similar in length and width to the standard 40-foot container but offers an extra foot in height.
External Dimensions:
Approximately 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 9.5 feet high (12.19 m x 2.44 m x 2.89 m).
Internal Dimensions:
About 39.5 feet long, 7.7 feet wide, and 8.9 feet high (12.03 m x 2.35 m x 2.69 m).
Volume:
Approximately 2,694 cubic feet (76.3 cubic meters).
Maximum Payload:
Similar to the standard 40-foot container.
What is LCL ?
LCL stands for "Less than Container Load." It is a shipping term used in logistics and freight transport to describe a shipment that does not occupy the entire space of a shipping container. Here are some key points about LCL:
Shared Space:
In an LCL shipment, multiple shippers’ goods are consolidated into a single container. This allows businesses with smaller shipments to share container space and reduce shipping costs.
Cost-Effectiveness:
LCL can be a more economical option for shippers who do not have enough cargo to fill an entire container. Instead of paying for a full container (as in FCL), they only pay for the space their goods occupy.
Flexible Shipping:
LCL shipments offer flexibility in terms of shipment sizes, making it suitable for small businesses or individuals who may only need to send a few boxes or pallets of goods.
Longer Transit Times:
LCL shipments may take longer to reach their destinations compared to FCL shipments because the consolidation process requires additional time for loading and unloading goods from different shippers.
Increased Handling:
Since LCL shipments involve multiple shippers, the goods typically undergo more handling and transfers, which might increase the risk of damage compared to FCL shipments.
Pricing:
LCL pricing is usually based on the volume (measured in cubic meters or cubic feet) or weight of the Freight, making it essential for shippers to be aware of both to get an accurate quote.
Overall, LCL is an advantageous option for businesses that need to ship smaller quantities of goods without incurring the costs of renting an entire container.
Baggage shipping refers to the process of transporting personal belongings or household items separately from regular freight shipping, typically for individuals moving or traveling. Here are some key aspects of baggage shipping:
Purpose:
Baggage shipping is commonly utilized by travelers moving to a new country, expatriates relocating abroad, or anyone requiring the shipment of personal items that exceed airline baggage limits. It allows individuals to send their belongings to their destination without the hassle of carrying them during travel.
Types of Items:
Baggage shipping can include various items such as clothes, shoes, personal effects, electronics, and household goods. However, certain items (like hazardous materials or perishable goods) are generally restricted.
Shipping Methods:
Baggage can be shipped via different methods, including air freight, sea freight, or ground transportation. The choice of method often depends on the urgency of the shipment, the volume of items, and the destination.
Customs and Regulations:
When shipping baggage internationally, it's essential to be aware of customs regulations and potential duties imposed by the destination country. Some countries may have restrictions on specific goods or require documentation for imported items.
Cost:
The cost of baggage shipping can vary based on factors such as the weight and volume of the items being shipped, the chosen shipping method, destination, and any additional services (like packing and insurance) you may require.
Professional Services:
Many companies specialize in baggage shipping services, offering various solutions that may include packing, customs clearance, and door-to-door delivery. They can help simplify the process and ensure that your belongings arrive safely and on time.
In summary, baggage shipping is a convenient solution for individuals looking to transport their personal items or belongings while traveling away from their home, particularly when dealing with international moves.
Yes, you can ship a television (TV) to India. However, there are important considerations and regulations to be aware of when doing so:
Customs Regulations:
When importing a TV into India, it is subject to customs duties and taxes. The exact amount can vary based on the value of the TV and current customs regulations. It's essential to check the latest rates and regulations.
Import Documents:
Proper documentation is required for customs clearance. This may
include:
A copy of the purchase invoice.
A packing list.
Your Original passport .
Any relevant shipping documents.
Eligible Duty Exemptions:
Under the Transfer of Residence (TR) rules, used household goods, including a TV, can be imported at a concessional duty rate if it’s been in your possession and used for at least six months prior to import.
Safety and Packaging:
Shipping a TV requires careful packaging to prevent damage during transport. Using appropriate packing materials, such as bubble wrap and sturdy boxes, is crucial. It's advisable to use professional packing services for such electronics.
Voltage and Compatibility:
Ensure that the TV is compatible with the local voltage and frequency standards in India (typically 220V and 50Hz). You may need a power converter or transformer if your TV is designed for different specifications.
Franchise and Warranty:
Check whether your TV’s warranty is applicable in India or if the manufacturer provides support for imports. Some warranties may be limited to specific countries.
Shipping Options:
You can choose between air freight (faster but more expensive) and sea freight (more economical but slower). Consider the value of your TV and how quickly you need it delivered when making this decision.
Customs Inspection:
Be prepared for possible customs inspections upon arrival. Having the necessary documentation ready can help expedite this process.
Before shipping a TV to India, it's advisable to consult with your shipping provider and make sure you understand all the associated costs and regulations.
Yes, you can ship furniture by air, but there are several important considerations to keep in mind:
Cost:
Air freight is significantly more expensive than other modes of shipping, such as sea freight. Shipping furniture by air is generally justified only for high-value items or when time is a critical factor. The cost is typically based on the weight and volume of the furniture being shipped.
Size and Weight
Limitations:
Airlines have specific size and weight limitations for cargo. Larger pieces of furniture may not be eligible for air shipping due to these restrictions. It’s important to check with the airline or freight forwarder for their specific guidelines.
Packing Requirements:
Proper packing is crucial to protect your furniture during transit. This may
involve:
Disassembling larger items when possible.
Using cushioning materials, such as bubble wrap or foam, to prevent damage.
Securing pieces in sturdy boxes or crates designed for shipping.
Transportation to the Airport:
You will need to arrange transportation of the furniture to the airport. This may involve hiring a moving service that specializes in air freight transportation.
Customs Regulations:
When shipping furniture internationally, you will need to comply with customs regulations at both the origin and destination countries. This includes providing proper documentation, such as invoices and shipping labels. Be sure to check for any import/export restrictions or duties applicable to furniture in the destination country.
Freight Forwarders:
Many people choose to work with a freight forwarder who specializes in air cargo. They can help manage logistics, handle documentation, and ensure compliance with shipping regulations.
Alternatives:
If the furniture is not urgently needed, consider shipping it by sea freight, which is often more cost-effective for larger shipments. Sea shipping is particularly suitable for bulky items, including furniture.
In summary, while it is possible to ship furniture by air, it is typically more expensive and may involve specific logistics and customs considerations. Always consult with shipping professionals to determine the best approach for your furniture shipping needs.
Under Transfer of Residence (TR) rules in India, the customs duty on goods imported by individuals relocating to India varies based on the type of items being imported. Here are some key points regarding customs duty under TR:
Duty-Free Allowances:
Personal effects, such as used household goods, furniture, and personal belongings (clothes, books, kitchenware, etc.), are generally allowed to be imported duty-free if they have been owned and used by the individual for at least six months prior to the move.
Used household goods and personal effects are exempt from customs duty under TR, provided they meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
Electronics and High-Value Items:
Certain items, like electronic devices (e.g., computers, televisions), may attract customs duty. Typically, the duty rate is around 36% for such goods but is applicable only if they are imported as new items.
If these electronics fall under the category of "used personal effects," they may qualify for duty-free entry, provided they meet the necessary criteria.
New Items:
If a person is importing new items, including electronics or other goods not classified as personal effects, they may have to pay customs duties and additional taxes (such as the Goods and Services Tax or GST), which can add to the total import cost.
Total Value and Duty Calculation:
The customs duty is calculated based on the assessable value of the goods, which includes the cost of goods, insurance, and freight (CIF).
Importers must provide proper documentation, including invoices, packing lists, and proof of residence in India.
Exclusions Under TR:
Import of certain items, such as gold and silver (beyond a specified limit), new vehicles, and specific electronic goods, are subject to restrictions or higher duties even under the TR scheme.
Eligibility Criteria:
The individual claiming Transfer of Residence customs benefits must have resided abroad for a minimum of two years and must be returning to India for permanent settlement.
Important Note:
These rules may change over time, and it's essential to verify the latest information from the Indian Customs Department or a customs consultant before shipping goods. Consulting with a customs broker or a relocation service will help ensure compliance with all regulations and help clarify any questions regarding specific items you plan to bring into India under the Transfer of Residence scheme.
Yes, you can import a motorcycle into India, but there are specific regulations and procedures that you need to follow. Here are the key points to consider when importing a motorcycle:
Eligibility:
Generally, individuals who have lived abroad for at least two years and are returning to India for permanent residency can import a motorcycle under the Transfer of Residence (TR) scheme.
Customs Duties and Taxes:
Importing a motorcycle incurs customs duties, which can be substantial. The duty rates can vary depending on the type of motorcycle, engine size, and whether it is being imported as new or used. Typically, the customs duty for motorcycles can range from 160% to 190% of the value of the motorcycle.
Additional taxes, such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), may also apply.
Import Permits and Documentation:
You will need to arrange various documents for the import process, including:
Original purchase invoice or bill of sale.
Registration documents from the home country.
Certificate of conformity or compliance with Indian safety and emission standards (if applicable).
Import permit from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Proof of residence in India
Compliance with Indian Standards:
The motorcycle must comply with Indian safety, emission, and environmental standards. There may be modifications required to meet these regulations upon arrival.
Shipping and Transportation:
You will need to arrange for the motorcycle to be shipped, typically using container shipping or Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) services. Proper packing and securing are crucial to prevent damage during transit.
Customs Clearance:
Once the motorcycle arrives in India, it must go through customs clearance. You will need to pay the applicable duties and present all necessary documentation to customs officials.
Registration in India:
After customs clearance, you must register the motorcycle with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in your area. This will include obtaining a local number plate and any necessary state permits.
Limitations:
Be aware that certain types of motorcycles, especially high-capacity or luxury models, may face additional restrictions or different duty rates.
Important Considerations:
Costs:
Importing a motorcycle can be costly due to shipping fees, customs duties, and possible modifications for compliance with Indian regulations.
Consult with Experts: It is advisable to work with a customs broker or vehicle import specialist to navigate the complex regulations and procedures of importing a motorcycle into India.
Check for Updates: Regulations can change, so ensure you have the most up-to-date information from the Indian Customs Department or relevant authorities.
Before proceeding, it’s crucial to thoroughly research the import process and calculate the potential costs involved in importing your motorcycle into India.
